United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) and OECPR-7
From 1 - 12 December, ICMM will participate in the seventh meeting of the Open-ended Committee of Permanent Representatives (OECPR-7) and the seventh session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7), held at the UN Environment Programme headquarters in Nairobi.
ICMM will be represented by Policy & Government Affairs Principal John Lindberg, and Senior Policy Officer India Snelling. John will also serve as co-facilitator of the Business and Industry Major Group (BIMG), which represents nearly 100 private sector organisations globally.
Throughout the two weeks of negotiations, ICMM will be promoting the role of responsible, normative practices and standards for the industry and will be working with member states and other major groups to see this reflected in relevant resolutions. At the negotiations, a number of resolutions will be dealing with issues that are relevant to ICMM's work, including on mineral resource governance.

Opening Plenary
As part of the OECPR-7 Opening Ceremony, John Lindberg will deliver an opening statement on behalf of the Business and Industry Major Group. His remarks will focus on the crucial role that the private sector can play in enabling progressive & pragmatic environmental, social and economic outcomes, the importance of robust outcomes from UNEA-7 and political leadership, and streamlining across the various UN bodies, conventions and treaties so that resources are most effectively deployed.

John Lindberg will speak at this high-level side event exploring how international legal and policy frameworks — including multilateral environmental agreements, human rights standards, and natural resource management tools — can help countries manage risks and promote a just, inclusive and sustainable energy transition.
The panel will address pressing risks associated with the lifecycle of critical energy transition minerals (CETMs), including industrial accidents and environmental degradation, and explore how responsible mining standards can support mitigation and resilience.
